Ensure Microsoft Word remembers changes made to Styles

Click the Developer tab.
Click the Document Template button in the Templates group.
Uncheck Automatically update document styles.
Click OK.

Have you made sure that this is enabled? as this can also cause the issue. Basically at times it determines that the input of changes are matter or style due to which it does not save.
Hope this helps you out.
