External API call to Alfresco fails with IE11 but not other browsers

I have a webscript call with parameters containing swedish letters åäö. This will work on Edge, Chrome but not IE11. It has worked previously on IE11 on Alfresco 5.1.2. But ever since I have upgraded to Alfresco 5.2.6 it will generate a Bad Request 400 on IE11.

I have also upgraded Tomcat v7.0.59 to v7.0.82 if that has any side effects?

After some searching, it seems that this is a known bug with IE11? Where it doesn't encode the url sent. I don't understand why it worked before the upgrade though. Does anyone have any experience regarding this issue?
