Problem in deployment..

Hi

I am a newbie. I have just installed JBoss IDE 1.6.0 GA plugin into Eclipse SDK 3.2. I have created the process definition but i am having problem during deployment. From the deployment tab, could find server name, server port but i cant locate server deployer. When i press test connection, an error message pop out[unexpected exception:http://localhost:8080/jbpm] By the way, i am using the installer environment. Can anyone help me on this.

I'm unfamiliar with the JBoss IDE 1.6.0 GA plugin. Does that include the jBPM process designer?

If you can't specify "server deployer" then that's an issue. It must be /alfresco/jbpm/deployprocess.

You might want to check the JBoss forums to see if this is an issue with the IDE plug-in. Alternatively, you can install JBoss jBPM process designer into your Eclipse 3.2. See http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/WorkflowAdministration#Installing_JBoss_jBPM_Process_Designer

Thank you for the reply. Sorry for the late reply because out of town for few days. JBoss IDE 1.6.0 GA plugin also include the jBPM process designer. I have just found out that the Jboss IDE 1.6.0 GA plugin is a bit of different from Jboss jBPM Process Designer Plugin 3.0.11. I have installed the Jboss jBPM Process Designer and located server deployer. I have succesfully passed the test connection but i have failed to deploy process archive.

The company say that this is not convenient for not IT literate people so they want me to develop an interface on top of the Eclipse. However, I have found out that almost every workflow engine in the market have their own process designer or write to develop the process definition. So is this possible? Do you have any suggestion for this problem.

Reasons: Unexpected exception caused the deployment to fail.

This could mean there's an error in your process definition. The jBPM process designer does not always present the source error. I tend to use the Workflow Console (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Workflow_Console) whilst developing new definitions.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. However, I can understand that non-IT literate people are going to struggle to use the designer. That's because it's aimed at two audiences - the process analyst and the process implementer (someone who knows how to write code at the end of the day). I've noticed there are two forms of designer out there. The first is a general designer (jBPM process designer is one of them) that allows the creation of any ad-hoc process (i.e. no business or solution context). The second is a designer for building workflows that target a specific business case (e.g. workflows for content management). These designers take away a lot of the power by encapsulating assumptions about how the workflows are implemented. Workflows are composed from high-level "context focused" building blocks.

Non-IT people have to be given the second option. Now, I would love to see a "Content Management" Workflow designer. One which provides building blocks such as Review, Publish, Transform etc.

The company sponsoring you may want something even closer to their business needs. How you proceed is going to depend on their requirements. If you do decide to implement a "content management" process designer, then I'm sure we can assist in the design etc. If you want to build something more general, then I'd suggest talking to JBoss jBPM guys. I know they're constantly working on improving the designer. Also, they'll be able to give good advice on whether non-IT people can ever define a process.
