Maybe this can help https://github.com/keensoft/alfresco-summit-2014/tree/master/10-enhancements/02-custom-site-props

Some minor adjustments are required for 5.1.x

alfresco comminity 5.1 has alfresco-remote-api-5.1.e.jar which contain site.put.json.js and sites.post.json.js.

Use the Alfresco SDK, as showed in the link I gave you.

It's based in Alfresco SDK 1.1.1 (4.2.x), but you can use the same Alfresco SDK 2.2.0 (5.1).

I'm using "idEntity" as sample.

On the Share part: https://github.com/keensoft/alfresco-summit-2014/blob/master/10-enhancements/02-custom-site-props/custom-site-props-share/src/main/amp/config/alfresco/web-extension/site-webscripts/es/keensoft/modules/create-site.get.html.ftl

On the Repo part: https://github.com/keensoft/alfresco-summit-2014/blob/master/10-enhancements/02-custom-site-props/custom-site-props-repo/src/main/amp/config/alfresco/extension/templates/webscripts/org/alfresco/repository/site/sites.post.json.js

Just change my "idEntity" by your "siteStatus"
