EMAIL WHEN FILES ARE DOWNLOADED

michaelangelo

Hi,

Appreciate if someone can give light to me regarding this configuration/modification that I am thinking.

I was thinking if it is possible to be able to add a feature or a modification in Alfresco wherein when somebody downloads a file it will trigger an email notification informing users/members of the site that this particular file has been downloaded.

Or maybe downloading of files in a site will be included in the Recent Activities email that Alfresco is sending once a day.

Is this even possible? Has anyone tried doing this?=)

Thanks and appreciate any help.

Best regards,
Michael

Hello,

there is an inherent technical difficulty in tracking downloads and differentiating them from superflous / repeated "touching" by web clients and other applications. E.g. a PDF reader may download a PDF file progressively which results in multiple "partial" HTTP download requests.

The simples solution would be to modify the "Download" action in Share to manually trigger some kind of notification. You may get a lot of false positives if users decide to cancel the download. Additionally, you might want to think about modifying "Show in Browser" too, which could effectively be considered a download as well.

Regards
Axel

Hi Axel,

Thanks for that quick tip regarding this.

Actually I was thinking of modifying the Download action so I have to add another action there that will trigger an email to notify users about the download. Although I'm not sure how to do it so I'll just spend some time looking at the code and how to be able to do it properly.

I would appreciate if someone can help regarding which particular files within alfresco I need to look at and modify.

Thanks again Axel and Best regards,
