'Upload a New Version' failing everytime

Having a problem in both our Live alfresco 3.3g and test Alfresco 4.0d where if we try to "Upload a New Version" from share - we get the following error each time:

I've already tried rebuilding the Lucene indexes on both servers - didn't solve the issue. Also, I've noticed that if I use the "Update" option in the Alfresco Browser instead of share, it finds the correct node and updates the document without any issues, we're only seeing this in Share. I've tried the upload with both Flash Uploading set to true and with it set to false (HTTP uploading).

Any suggestions?

And no, "Get Alfresco Enterprise" is not on the table. We're already looking at it, but are a few months from getting approval for the funds for it - right now we need a solution for the community version.

Hello,

by any chance, are you uploading a new version for a document checked out in Share? Judging from your log, there are some configured rules which are being executed. Now - if you are updating a checked out document via Share, the rule may have been triggered for the updated working copy, which is deleted before the end of the transaction (after changes have been copied to the original). The rule that has been triggered executes but fails since the node it triggered on no longer exists (and the logic of CounterIncrementActionExecutor apparently does not test the node existence).
If that is the case, you should be able to work around this by modifying your rule, e.g. to not trigger on working copies.

First, thanks for the reply - it gave me a starting point to look that I hadn't though of, especially since Share isn't showing whether the document is a working copy or not (unless I'm missing something, of course).

So, it appears that you are probably right. I was able to verify this by attempting to use the "Edit offline" option (which I see as just another way of saying "check out") and I got the following error:

Hello,

your new log points to another rule that attempts to perform an operation on a node that should not be modified in the current state (locked). Instead of attempting to force nodes into an unlocked state I would investigate the rules and associated actions (this one being a JavaScript action) - any implemented rule should treat both working copies as well as locked content appropriately, i.e. not modify it unless absolutely necessary (which, while in a locked state, would only be possible with a Java action and the policy behaviour filter to disable lock checks).

Using the Share UI, there is no pre-configured action to unlock a document. Locks are set and removed implicitly, e.g. by checking out a document or opening it via SharePoint integration, and then completing that operation. As far as I see in the code for Alfresco 4 it is not possible to unlock a document via JavaScript API apart from checkout / checkin.

Ok, so I have verified what you claim in both errors. The issue now is that since this is not just an upgrade (3.3g to 4.0d, incremental using 3.4d) but also a migration (moving from Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS to RHEL5), how do I complete such a move without 1/2 the files having working copies, locked nodes or both?

This is being done on a test server right now, so I'm open to as many things as I can try to fix this.

Ok, so I found the rule causing problems. The rule is set to effect "All Items" in the folder and increases an "increment counter" over time. Thanks for your help!
