error selecting email in manage rules

so we've recently updated to 4.2.0 to allow mail.from.enabled to be configured the way we wanted. but now we have a new issue, in rules to send email after opening up the msg to configure, prompted with error Could not load Authority Finder component and the TO button is now greyed out.

any idea's? anyone else come across?
