Create custom metadata

Hello,

I have installed Alfresco Community 3.4.d in linux. I need to create new metadata by default in Alfresco. I mean, when a person adds content in a site, i need to change the properties (metadata) appearing by default.

How can I do it? I've read in some posts that the procedure is editing two files: web-client-config-custom.xml and customModel.xml but I have no idea how to do it.

Can anobody give me an example?

So I guess I must create a new custom content model and apply it to the folders where I need to add the content, isn't it?

Besides, I tried it but I'm very novice in Alfresco and it's seems it's not working for me. What I did is the following:

1. In TOMCAT_HOME/shared/classes/alfresco/extension I created the exampleModel.xml file and I put exactly the same info of the examples.
2. In TOMCAT_HOME/shared/classes/alfresco/extension I created the example-model-context.xml file and I put the same info of the examples.

Then I don't understand what to do or how to do it in "Step 5: Testing the Model definition" so, when I restart the tomcat an error occurs in the startup and alfresco crashes.

Do you have a guide for dummies like me?

Hi JonasH,

This is the whole catalina.out when Alfresco 3.4.d starts after creating the exampleModel.xml and example-custom-model.xml, associationg in the core-services-context.xml file and restarting Alfresco.

Important: Alfresco doesn't crashes after restarting but I can't find the exampleModel to apply it. What do I have to do?

I finally found the error. It's not necessary to create the files in the server but it's necessary to have them in the data dictionary. Having them there I can apply a rule using this aspect with new metadata.
