Hi All,

I've encountered an error saying

org.alfresco.webservice.util.WebServiceException: Error starting session
Caused by: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

at  the very start of the web service call to authenticate to Alfresco.
Is it possible to set the timeout of the Authentication via web service?

Before starting a session you can set the timeout in this way:

WebServiceFactory.setTimeoutMilliseconds(timeoutMilliseconds)
AuthenticationUtils.startSession(USERNAME, PASSWORD);
…

But remember that in an application server you have to conform this timeout with the container timeout, for example in Tomcat you have the following setting:
