Pick author from a list (like tags) in share

Hello all

I would like to modify how author  names are input in share; instead of the end user having to type it in; it would be nice for a dialog with a list of authors to open up and the user can just click and input; just like we do for tags. Has anyone attempted this? Any suggestions on how to proceed would be great.

The people finder component (used for finding and selecting users) is re-usable. Look at how it is used to assign users to a workflow task or invite people to a site, for example.

For your purposes, it sounds like you want to grab the user name. By default the people finder returns node refs. I haven't looked at it in a while to see whether or not it could be configured to return just the username, which you'd then stick in the field.

In any case, that's where you should start. Even if you have to tweak the people finder to return usernames, it will save you a lot of work.
