SOLVED: No Thumbnails

I have an Alfresco installation of Preview2 Jun 2nd version. It is installed using Tomcat 6 built into OpenSuse 11.1. Everything works, including preview of all documents and indexes are working. I get the gears though when uploading documents for the thumbnails. Logs are currently completely prestine. Just some messages about activity feed entries processing in the catalina.out file. I was getting errors before rebooting with the below, but now nothing. I have compiled the latest version of ImageMagick and SWF Tools for my platform and they function. Is there something specific I have to set for thumbnails? Also what types of documents will create thumbnails? Again, below is what I was getting before a reboot.

And also: nothing int the logs. ImageMagick check succeeds upon Alfresco startup, but afterwards it no longer seems to be called from Alfresco. When enabling logging for transformations, nothing relevant is logged when we try an image conversion, whereas relevant info IS logged when we do the same on a working Windows installation…
ImageMagick on itself is working and config (path) is OK.

Must be something in the combination ImageMagick, Alfresco, Suse 11. But without errors being logged not easy to find…

I resolved this problem. Found that it was the latest version of ImageMagic I was using. Like 6.5.3 or something. I removed it and went back to the default installed one built into OpenSUSE 11.1 selecting:

imagemagick
imagemagick-extra

Not sure if the extras did anything, but looks like for me, 3.2 Preview2 is incompatible with the later versions. As for your version, seems in line with what I installed so not sure, but would suggest removing it and installing the above two packages again from the original CD.

Indeed, reverting to ImageMagick 6.2.9 (instead of 6.4.3) also solved the issue for us.

Hi,

Even I'm facing the same problem with Alfresco 3.1 with ImageMagick 6.4.4.
When I pointed to ImageMagick 6.5.2 I'm getting some errors in the log file which says -thumbnail option is not available.
We are using Solaris 10 SPARC + Alfresco 3.1 + ImageMagick 6.4.4

Previously we were using Alfresco 2.1 + Solaris 10 + ImageMagick 6.4.4 and everything was working fine.

Is there any issue with Alfresco 3.1 with ImageMagick plugins?

Please help me…

This fix is not working for me - 32-bit RHEL with Sun java 1.6.0_14. Today I've tried all of the following ImageMagick versions built from source:
ImageMagick-6.2.9 ImageMagick-6.3.5 ImageMagick-6.4.9-10 ImageMagick-6.5.3-3 ImageMagick-6.5.4-2
… plus version 6.2.8 via yum.

I get the thumbnail for images but not documents, though the large flash preview for documents seems to work fine. Luckily, I am also still having a problem with one type of image file - the .pnm JPEG-2000 file that loads the small preview but not the large one. So I can show log files for all three cases. To get these log files, I added two lines to log4j:

log4j.logger.org.alfresco.repo.thumbnail=debug
log4j.logger.org.alfresco.repo.content=debug

If anyone has any ideas about the best next course of action based on these logs, please let me know… I think I'm going to re-upgrade ImageMagick in the mean time. These logs, by the way, were generated with the RHEL 6.2.8 ImageMagick package from yum.

This is the only time I get a real exception in the log… when listing the contents of the document library.
