How to deploy custom Web Service in Alfresco

I have following questions based on the webservices:

1) How to deploy the custom webservice in alfresco(community edition)?

2) How do i call the pre-defined webservice in alfresco from external application?

Sample applictions may be more helpful.

If you download the Alfresco SDK or check it out from:

svn://svn.alfresco.com/alfresco/HEAD/root/projects/sdk/

you will find a sample project named WebServiceSamples that will give you a start.
