I am getting incorrect mime type for uploaded PDF files in my ALfresco 3.3G. What could be wrong here and where should I look for potential problem?
The incorrect mime-type I get for PDF files is - application/ms-word

This is from Node Browser -
contentUrl=store://2010/10/5/12/48/f7944d43-8b52-4b35-a753-e59118daf166.bin|mimetype=application/ms-word|size=7058934|encoding=|locale=en_US_

Alfresco "guesses" the mime type based on the file extension. If you look in MimetypeMap.guessMimeType(String) you'll see how that is done.
This means that if you upload a file with the wrong file extension that Alfresco will guess it wrong. You can, of course, set the mime type explicitly via the UI.

Note that from 3.4 onwards there are some improvements in this area. In 3.4, we still guess the mime type based on extension, but the use of apache tika for metadata extraction behind the scenes means that you should get better exceptions if the incorrect mime type causes a later problem.
