Client side caching?

Hello everybody.
I'm searching for simplest possible way to model following situation.

We have only one alfresco server, to which we connect another system using Web Services. The problem is, that the other system is not located in lan, but accessed via internet. To reduce the bandwidth consumption we want to setup a file cache somewhere in web services client location. Is there a way to do this without installing second alfresco and use it as a cluster, or modifying the client application to do the caching part itself?

So, any ideas?

As I understand Transfer service description on the wiki, it is for configuring transfer of nodes(content) between two afresco instances. I wanted to build the situation without the client side copy of alfresco. But thanks anyway.
