Assigning categories in Modify Content Properties dialog

aswini

Hi All,

Is it possible to assign categories to a document while uploading it into a space - using the add-content-dialog.jsp or contentModel.xml?

I am trying to find a way in which an user should be able to assign any category to a document, uploading the document itself. So if the all the categories, can be listed in a dropdown during content upload (or redirected to categories page), then I would be able to assign it on upload itself(making it a mandatory property). Is it possible to achieve this?

The forums have been very helpful previously. Hence I wish I could get this also sorted out.

Thanks
Aswini

Yes, its definitly possible.

Following approch can be easily done. I came from that point, that users can add categories on add-content dialog despite no content must been uploaded at this moment (but it could).

At first, which components depending on this task?

faces-config-custom.xml

CustomAddContentDialog -> AddContentDialog

add-content-dialog.jsp
Add following code to faces-config file:

<managed-bean>
      <description>
         The bean that backs up the Add Content Dialog
      </description>
      <managed-bean-name>AddContentDialog</managed-bean-name>
      <managed-bean-class>org.CustomAddContentDialog</managed-bean-class>
      <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
      <managed-property>
         <property-name>nodeService</property-name>
         <value>#{NodeService}</value>
      </managed-property>
      <managed-property>
         <property-name>fileFolderService</property-name>
         <value>#{FileFolderService}</value>
      </managed-property>
      <managed-property>
         <property-name>searchService</property-name>
         <value>#{SearchService}</value>
      </managed-property>
      <managed-property>
         <property-name>navigator</property-name>
         <value>#{NavigationBean}</value>
      </managed-property>
      <managed-property>
         <property-name>browseBean</property-name>
         <value>#{BrowseBean}</value>
      </managed-property>
      <managed-property>
         <property-name>contentService</property-name>
         <value>#{ContentService}</value>
      </managed-property>
      <managed-property>
         <property-name>dictionaryService</property-name>
         <value>#{DictionaryService}</value>
      </managed-property>
   </managed-bean>

Whats happened here? Well, you´ve just overwritten the Managedbean for the AddContentDialog, no serious things.

Now, you´ll implement the class CustomAddContentDialog, being responsible holding back the selectedcategories as well as the available categories:

Its just an excerpt:

public class CustomAddContentDialog extends AddContentDialog
 …
 private List<NodeRef> categories = new ArrayList<NodeRef>();
 …

   public List getCategories(){
      return this.categories;
   }

   public void setAddedCategory(NodeRef addedCategory) {
      this.categories.add(addedCategory);
   }

   public NodeRef getAddedCategory() {
      if(this.categories.isEmpty())
        return null;
      else
        return this.categories.get(this.categories.size()-1);
   }

   …

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

Now, we´ve still to add an category selector to the add-content-dialog.jsp site:

<h:form acceptcharset="UTF-8" id="add-content-upload-end" onsubmit="return validate();">
<tr>
   <td>
<r:multiValueSelector id="multi-category-selector"
value="#{AddContentDialog.categories}"
lastItemAdded="#{AddContentDialog.addedCategory}"
selectItemMsg="#{msg.select_category}"
selectedItemsMsg="#{msg.selected_categories}"
noSelectedItemsMsg="#{msg.no_selected_categories}"
styleClass="selector">
<r:categorySelector id="category-selector" label="#{msg.select_category_prompt}"
styleClass="selector"
value="#{AddContentDialog.addedCategory}"/>
</r:multiValueSelector>
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

After we set up the desired functionality, you´ll have the opportunity to set up categories on you newly created document(after being uploaded and you click the button "Ok").
This can be done, within the finishImpl Method of the class AddContentDialog, which must be replaced with you own.

public class CustomAddContentDialog extends AddContentDialog

 …

 protected String finishImpl(FacesContext context, String outcome) {
   String outcome = super.finishImpl(context, outcome);
   //now you gain access to the protected createdNode property
   categoryService ->
 }
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

Within this method, you can apply youre selected categories being stored in the member variable categories to you document via categoryService.

Oh! Thank you Sebastian.

That's a well structured & detailed explanation. It will be of great help to me. I shall try this and confirm if I found the answer to my mystery.

Thank you

Am getting a bit lost here. Would it be possible to send me the CustomAddContentDialog class file please.

Thanks

Hi Sebastian,

Can you please help me with a issue I can't resolve?

I've add a new field at add-content-dialog.jsp like this

      <td width="80%"></f:verbatim><h:inputSecret id="password" value="" maxlength="20" size="35" onkeyup="checkButtonState();" onchange="checkButtonState();" /><f:verbatim></td>
‍‍

can I retrieve value of that field in the finishImpl method of the bean or… how can I use that value in a Java Class???

I have my own bean that extend BaseContentWizard.

thanks!

cheffilet

Yes for sure, i would go this way:

take the faces-config-custom as i had leave them in the post

Now add to the CustomAddContentDialog your password attribute with getter/setter methods

public class CustomAddContentDialog extends org.CustomAddContentDialog {

  private String myPassword;

  public void setMyPassword(String pw){
    this.myPassword = pw;
  }

  public String getMyPassword(){
    return this.myPassword;
  }

}
‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍

Now you need on your View-Site(JSP) a Valuebinding regarding your password textfield. I take your code and add valuebinding on it by adding the tag "value". Now i tell faces to mapp the current value of this textfield against our managedbean member-attribute "myPasssword):

 <td width="80%"></f:verbatim><h:inputSecret id="password"  value="#{AddContentDialog.myPassword}" maxlength="20" size="35" onkeyup="checkButtonState();" onchange="checkButtonState();" /><f:verbatim></td>‍

You should now get the myPassword Value if you accesing this attribute in your finishImpl method.

Hi All,

I followed all the steps described in the previous posts and it worked almost perfectly. It didn´t worked perfectly because I pretend to use rules with the creation of the category.

I have defined a rule associated with the chosen category, but the rule is never applied when I chose the category on the upload.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem? What i'm missing in the CustomAddContentDialog class?

Thank You.

Best Regards.
