Unable to do bean instance creation

I am getting the following error :

org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'processEngineConfiguration' defined in class path resource [activiti.cfg.xml]: Instantiation of bean failed; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/activiti/image/ProcessDiagramGenerator

I dont know how to resolve this . I am not finding the right jar file containing the above class ..

make sure you have the activiti-image-generator-xxx.jar into your classpath.

I am not able to find that jar .. Can you please provide me the jar

http://www.activiti.org/download.html
it's delivered inside the libs folder

Ok thanks a lot .. That issue got resolved .. Now I am getting the following error :

org.activiti.engine.ActivitiException: Error while building ibatis SqlSessionFactory: Error creating document instance. Cause: java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect ..

how to resolve this

it seems it's not possible to connect to the DB.. or something like that..
Are you sure you configured correctly the DB settings ?

(some more details from the log would be useful)

How to make sure I have configured correctly the DB settings ?

Where can i check If i have configured DB settings correctly or not ?
I have not done anything regarding that

please upload here some more relevant information from you log file. (maybe entire log file)

I have attched the entire stack trace

entire stack trace.txt.zip

find that line into the activiti code: ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl.java
<code>
Configuration configuration = initMybatisConfiguration(environment, reader, properties);
</code>
and inspect the "reader" , it seems the related input stream could not be read for some reason.

it should point to this file: org/activiti/db/mapping/mappings.xml

did you delete/change something or is a default deployment?

I am not able to find that line at all . I dont have a file named ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl.java actually .. I have a book named Activiti 5.x Business Process Management Beginner's Guide [Kindle Edition]
Dr. Zakir Laliwala (Author), Irshad Mansuri ..
I was trying to follow example given in page no :21 ..

Hi ,

Where will I find the line ?
Configuration configuration = initMybatisConfiguration(environment, reader, properties);

I dont have a file named ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl.java ..
Please help me

What's your Activiti version?

Activiti 5.17.0

do you have a class: org.activiti.engine.impl.cfg.ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl ?

according to the stacktrace you posted you should have it:
<code>
at org.activiti.engine.impl.cfg.ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl.initMybatisConfiguration(ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl.java:720)
at org.activiti.engine.impl.cfg.ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl.initSqlSessionFactory(ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl.java:708)
</code>

Where can I check such class org.activiti.engine.impl.cfg.ProcessEngineConfigurationImpl is present or not .. Please guide me ..
I am new to activiti ..I am using eclipse …

Hi ,

The class which you were in telling is in jar file activiti 5.17 .. How can I check what value reader is getting ..
Please help me

download the activiti sources, config your IDE to use these sources for the activiti jar and then use the debugger in order to inspect the values.

try googleing "debugging with eclipse"

I have got the debugger value of reader which I am getting .. Please guide and help me ..

java.io.InputStreamReader@67fa6619 this is what I am getting

Ok, now you know how to debug.
having the debugger started you could start investigate around this line in the stacktrace:
<code>
java.lang.NullPointerException
at org.activiti.designer.test.ProcessTestMyProcess.startProcess(ProcessTestMyProcess.java:31)
</code>

put a breakpoint into the ProcessTestMyProcess on line 31. and see what's null. (and then you could start finding why is it null.)

note: I don't know what's wrong in your setup, but I think is more useful to learn you catch a fish than give you a fish.

Hi ,
RepositoryService repositoryService = activitiRule.getRepositoryService();
RuntimeService runtimeService = activitiRule.getRuntimeService();

In both of these statements I am getting the value of respositoryservice and runtimeservice as null . What might be the reason for that ?
Is that anything to do with the sql exception I am getting ? Please help me .. I am confused

Please help me .. I am new to activiti .. I dont know why I am getting as null even though I have all the required jar files .
Please guide me ..

Please share the unit test you are writing with the activitiRule.getRepositoryService call that results in null. Then we can have a better idea what's going wrong.

Best regards,

I have attached the junit test file ..Please help me ..

Hi,
would be great if you will provide a zip file with all the files involved. (the pom file, activiti.cfg.xml, bpmn .etc..)
since you cannot upload a zip file here, just change the extension to txt before uploading it)

It is working now .. Thanks a lot .. I removed Ibatis jar ..It worked
