i am a beginner to alfresco labs and have just installed v.3c on windows xp to try out.  everything is running, but i am super confused about how to get the fsr working on my web host's server.  when i download the linux deployment package, it does not have an extension… do i need to add one?  then i FTP the file up on to my server and then i get completely lost… i don't know how to begin to install it.  all help would be appreciated.

The file without an extension is a binary installation program for 32bit x86 architecture machines.  For many Linux servers this means you can simply turn on the execute bit for the file and then run the program to start the installation process.

That said, many administrators don't like running "unknown" binaries on their servers, and in that case you might consider using the zip file distribution of the FSR instead (which, despite the file type, is multi-platform).  In this case you can simply unzip the file to a blank directory and configure as needed.
