RAAr is an abstraction layer for remote communication with Alfresco ECM. RAAr provides a simple, Java-based local library that may be used by one or more content rich applications and allows these applications to interface to Alfresco (including multiple Alfresco repositories from the same application). RAAr's lower layers handle communication to remote Alfresco instances over ReSTful calls to Alfresco that get mapped to calls to the Alfresco Foundation Services (AFS) API.

Motivation for RAAr

Certain classes of content rich applications require one or more of the following:

Not sure if I understood your question, but if it means "get all the content in a particular directory" then

You need to write a lucene query and search using search service which will return the contents in that folder.

Hi Mesdocs,

Looks like the database that you have is corrupt, can you cleanup or erase the whole database and start over. (Delete the alf_data folder at root location of alfresco and restart)

Also make sure Alfresco comes up before installing the RAAR amp into it.

Let me know if the DB cleanup didn't work.

When using RAAR v1.8.1 jars in an applicatin to upload documents to Alfresco, I'm getting the following error in the console. However, when I modify the job to use v1.7.1, the error does not occur. However that version is before the change to allow you to configure the http connection pooling. We're just using the default pool settings so are not overriding with any -D params.

Ok, I got it working. The problem was that we were referencing jbossall-client.jar in the classpath as well and that contains httpclient classes of an older version. I moved common-httpclient-3.1.jar first in the classpath and it works now.

I'm using RAAr 1.5 to put together a demo application. How would one get the size of a content node's content (ie the file size)? Also, I don't see a rivetlogic implementation of the PermissionService class, however it was used in a code snippet above to specify how to change permissions on folders. Do I need to upgrade my alfresco and RAAr versions for this feature?

To get the size, get the content property, cast it to a ContentData and ask that for the size. Example:

Quick question. Are users able to see all permissions on a node? As a standard user, I've created a node in my personal space and added Consumer permissions for other users to view the that file. The other users can see the file just fine. However, I'm querying for the permissions on that node and all I see are my personal permissions, not those I've set for the other users. Is there a way I can see the other users permissions that I've set.

Hi,

You should be able to use the following RAAr call from the SecurityService to get all permissions assigned to a node:

java.util.Set<org.alfresco.service.cmr.security.AccessPermission> getAllSetPermissions(Ticket ticket, org.alfresco.service.cmr.repository.NodeRef nodeRef) throws InvalidTicketException, CmaRuntimeException

This call will return a set of permissions assigned to that node. It will include all users and their access level. The only gotcha is that if the user executing this call is a Consumer on that node you will get a org.alfresco.repo.security.permissions.AccessDeniedException exception.

The following is an example of how you can catch that exception:

Thanks again for all the help coming up to speed on the RAAr java api. I'm working with the VersionService and don't quite understand how versioning works through the api. How does one go about enabling versioning on a node? I see the version service, but I'm unsure what the steps would be to add versioning support. Looking at the effect on a node from the alfresco webapp, I see that the following properties were added to a node after versioning:

{http://www.alfresco.org/model/content/1.0}autoVersion
{http://www.alfresco.org/model/content/1.0}initialVersion

As well, the following aspect was added:

{http://www.alfresco.org/model/content/1.0}versionable

Is it sufficient to add the aspect and then perform a createVersion, or is there more to it. Also, to find out if a node is versioned, do we simply look for the versionable aspect, or check for a version history?

You answered your own question

If you want Alfresco to start versioning a node you should just attach the versionable aspect to it. Any updates to the document will then automatically increment the version number.

If you want to find out if a node is versioned you should just check if the versionable aspect is added using the hasAspect() method of the NodeService.

I'm looking for a way to determine if content is missing for a node programmatically with the RAAR API, for a specific uuid. I have tried the following but the size is coming back > 0 for nodes which show as missing content when you try to view them from the web client.

Also, is xpath search supported in the latest version of the RAAR API? I'm running v1.8.1 now and there is no SearchService.QueryLanguage.xpath variable defined so I assume it's not supported in that version. The only thing defined is SearchService.QueryLanguage.lucene.

I did a quick test using your code snippet and the contentData is null when the node has no content associated with it.
The following is the code that I used.

Raar "com.rivetlogic.core.cma.api.ContentService" supports downlod/upload. You should be able to read/write a content to/from a file or stream.

Not in my case. We have a batch job which ran to upload the documents to Alfresco, and it must have failed at a point where it somehow created the node and add something to the PROP_CONTENT property, but for some reason when I try to open the content from the web client, it says it's missing. When I run the code snippet I posted, it actually looks like it's returning the correct sizes of the contentData, as reported underneath the node in the web client.

However, I have also tried to get the size with the following code, and this code reports sizes of 314 or 315 for all nodes with missing content, but reports sizes of about 315 more than what is shown in the web client as the size for content that is missing, for example web client shows 13.11 KB and below code reports the size as 13426 (so maybe I can get by with this code and just look at anything under 350 bytes as missing?).

Good point about the 13.11 kb, you're right. I was just dividing by 1000. So do you have any other suggestions for how I can reliably determine whether content is missing or not? Is there a way to get an instance of the ContentReader with the RAAR API, as mentioned in one of my previous posts?

I would recommend that you investigate/debug this issue further. ContentData returned by RAAr should be null. If you are getting something other than null verify other properties, in particular the contentUrl.

Below are the properties on ContentData.

getReader and getRawReader rely on contentUrl property to determine if there is a content.

RAAr ContentService provides read/write access to the contents.

Reading the entire content to see if it is empty is not an efficient process.

I have just looked into the other properties in the contentData object as suggested and none are null for the missing content, not even the contentUrl, and all of the properties are storing what they should be. However, I verified though that the path returned by getContentUrl() does not exist in the repository for the missing content.

Hi,

It seems that there was some sort of error that happened during your batch process that caused nodes to be created with content URLs that point to file system locations that do not exist. Normally if the content upload process failed your transactions would have rolled back.

It's hard to tell what kind of error(s) you have in the batch process without debugging it in detail.

I would suggest that you start there and see how that process failed, but from what I've seen so far this doesn't seem to be a RAAr or Alfresco issue.
