How to extend an Alfresco GROUP

Hi all.

I need to extend an existing Alfresco GROUP with some other custom properties (i.e. address, city and other credentials).
What is the best approach to get it?

Is it right to define a Custom Content Model with a new type that "extends"an Alfresco GROUP in order to add some custom properties? For example, creating a new type name MyGroup into a new Custom Content Model, with some custom properties, then linking the Alfresco GROUP to MyGroup - i.e. by the same name…. Obviously I find this solution inefficient and not competeley correct.

I'm bringing this topic up from the dead, since it's exactly what I'm looking for at the moment, and I can't seem to find a good answer.
So, I like the author of the original post would like to extend Alfresco groups with extra properties, whatever they may be.

I haven't really find a great way to do this, so I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

One possibility is creating your own content, then linking it to the Alfresco group, but I would like to avoid that, since I'd like to keep it as simple as possible.

From Alfresco's perspective adding extra properties to groups is not recommended.

Yes you can do it, but you are then working with Alfresco's private implementation which can and does change from time to time.
