User role - Coordinator and Collaborator

A user, that has a collaborator role, did a check-out on a document (which he is not the creator) with sucess. When he was trying to do check-in Alfresco return the error message: error_cancel_checkoutAccess Denied. You do not have the appropriate permissions to perform this operation.

Why is that? Only coordinators can do check-in on documents which they are not creators?

Can you post all the permissions that apply to the checked out doc and the locked doc - including those that are inherited. Also the user name as displayed at the top rightish of the UI as the login link.

Have you modified anything in the permission configuration?
(altered the rights of a lock owner?)
