How do I make a link download a dynamicly generated file?

Hello,

I have added a view that has a link to a text file. When the link is pressed i want the file to be downloaded to the client machine. the trick is that alfresco has to generate that text file on the fly (for example with the name of the user and the space he is in).

Please help me

You should be able to do this with Web Scripts - you'd need to pass the name, path or nodeRef of the current space and your template text file to the script manually, but auto-populating the user name wouldn't be a problem.

You should use a FreeMarker template (or a WebScript) to generate the dynamic content (see http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Template_Guide).

if I want the webscript to return me a file, I need to use the Response Formats? are there any special steps i need to take in order for the response to be a file other then that?

Alright,

I made the webscript which calls an ftl with format=text, but now the file is displayed in the browser. I tried searching around on how to force the file to download, but all I came up with was php scripts, which I dont know how to correlate to the webscript mechanism.

Could you please point me out to an example of how to do that? :?

it seems that I need to set the header of the response with Content-Disposition = 'attachment; filename=filename.txt' for it to work. How can I do that within webscripts??

I looked at implementing java code, but also the WebScriptResponse doesnt allow me to change this.

what are my options???

Alright, after digging here and there, I came up with a solution:

I made my webscript a java webscript (and added the bean to the xml file):

Alright, now I have only one question left.. How can I make use of the DeclarativeWebScript here? the execute is final, and executeImpl is getting a WebScriptStatus instead of the WebScriptResponse..

I would like after the insertion of the header to execute an ftl script.

Any help with that?
