queryChildren issue 'Failed to resolve to a single NodeRef'

I'm trying to query a workspace location for all the contents  of the workspace and am using the repositoryService.queryChildren method.  The exception I get is the "Failed to resolve to a single NodeRef" error, this I assume is because there is more than 1 result to this query. Here's the code:

RepositoryServiceSoapBindingStub repositoryService = WebServiceFactory.getRepositoryService();
queryResult = repositoryService.queryChildren(ref);
resultRows = queryResult.getResultSet().getRows();

String FOLDER_STRING="/app:company_home//*";
Reference(STORE, null, FOLDER_STRING);
Predicate predicate = new Predicate(new Reference[]{reference}, null, null);

Is there a way to get around this?
